Menyanthes and Nymphoides:
These are not gentians anymore |
The two genera Menyanthes
(buck bean) and Nymphoides (floating heart) was earlier placed in
the Gentianaceae, but now belong to their own family, the
Menyanthaceae.
In fact, this family is not closely related to gentians at all, but has
close relatives such as sunflowers (Asteraceae), lobelias (Lobeliaceae),
and blue bells (Campanulaceae).
